St. Patrick’s Day Recipes With Epicurean Butter

Serving Suggestion

Much of what we think of as Irish on St. Patrick’s Day doesn't actually come from Ireland—parades, leprechauns, green beer, and (you might find this difficult to believe) neon green-capped cupcakes with green shamrock sprinkles. Even corned beef, as the treasured centerpiece of the St. Patrick’s Day meal, is an American invention.

The Irish rarely ate beef at all. The wealthy indulged occasionally at celebrations, but for everyone else, cows were considered sacred and were kept for use in farming, for milk, and, lucky for us, for butter.

So while this distinctly American take on an Irish holiday is a great excuse to celebrate with good food and drinks, it’s also an excuse to eat really good butter.

These are some of our favorite ways to butter up some much-loved St. Patrick’s Day dishes.

Shepherd's Pie

There’s nothing more comforting than Shepherd's Pie—a lamb meat pie with gravy, vegetables, and a mashed potato crust—even better when those mashed potatoes are made with Epicurean Tuscan Herb butter.

Herb Buttered Potatoes

You can’t make St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef without also making Herb Buttered Potatoes. Whether you roast the potatoes or boil them, toss them with Epicurean Roasted Garlic Herb butter after cooking for fast, gourmet flavor.

Irish Soda Bread

Irish Soda Bread is a quick bread made with flour, baking soda (also why it’s called Soda Bread), buttermilk, butter, and salt. Give traditional Irish Soda Bread a touch of sweetness by using Epicurean Maple Syrup butter in the dough, and save some to spread on slices of bread while it’s still warm from the oven.

Colcannon

Colcannon combines mashed potatoes, cabbage, leeks, garlic, cream, and butter. Elevate this hardy and comforting dish by substituting Epicurean White Truffle butter for regular butter.

“Green” Eggs

Start St. Patrick’s Day off right with herby, “green” scrambled eggs. Just melt Epicurean Tuscan Herb butter, stir in eggs and cheese, and top with chopped herbs.

Guinness Cupcakes with Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Buttercream

Not all St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes need to be bright green. Make these Guinness Cupcakes and top them with Epicurean Cinnamon & Brown Sugar butter buttercream.
